The collection consists of thirty-seven black and white digital images mainly of the Gardiner's Store in Popoff, Slocan.

 

biography

 

Reid Gardiner was born in Crescent Valley, British Columbia in 1917. He was an accountant in Nelson when he heard about an opportunity to work at a store opening in Popoff. Reid ran the store from 1942 to 1946. He married Eva on October 31, 1942 where he and his wife first lived in a little shack, then a log cabin, and then above the store. The store had stairs that would be put down in the evening a pulled up in the day time. From 1946 to 1950 Reid worked at a boat business in Matsumoto that started in Slocan. He worked in Prince Rupert then to Popoff. Reid also finished one boat in Nelson. From 1952 to 1989, Wayne worked in North Vancouver building fish boats.

 


 

Eva Gardiner (nee ?) was born in 1923 in Salmo, British Columbia. She went to High School in Nelson, BC.

 

She gave birth to their son Wayne in January of 1944 and to a little girl on May 11,1947 in Nelson. Eva and Reid had one other girl and boy.
