scope and content | The collection consists of thirteen images the shingle camp in Stave Falls, Mission, BC and of the Akira's departure for Canada from the port at Yokohama, Japan. |
biography | Kaneichi Arita came to Canada around 1910 and worked at a shingle mill camp near Stave Falls in Mission, BC. He was married to Fura Arita. Kaneichi Arita worked with his brother Tomoichi Arita at this camp. Kaneichi and Tomoichi, and their families returned to Japan before the Second World War and worked as vegetable and rice farmers in Hiroshima-ken, Hatsukaiichi-shi.
Hajime Harvey Arita was born in Canada at the shingle camp but grew up in Japan. He returned to Canada in the 1950's and has lived there since. |
