The collection consists of four series. The first series consists of images mainly of internment settings and of Mary Ohara's family members. The second series consists of artefacts collected or owned by Mary Ohara. The third consists of textual materials collected or owned by Mary Ohara. And the last series is three interviews of Mary Ohara.

 

biography

 

Mary Kazuyo Ohara was born November 27, 1929 at Galiano Island, and went to school on Salt Spring Island. BC Places that she lived included Galiano, Saltspring Island, Lemon Creek, Japan and Vancouver. Mary's father was Sajiro Ohara, a fisherman and mother was Tsuru, from Wakayama Japan, and they had 8 children including Hiroshi, Mariko, Iwami, and Minoru.

 


 


 


 


 


 

Mary was employed as a typist, housewife and secretary.
