biography

Tasaburo Chaki and Tsujikawa Chaki owned T Chaki Fish Co located at 262 Powell Street, under the Sun Peking Chop Suey House, in the 1930s until the time of the internment in 1942. The business employed four people who also boarded with the family. Tasaburo's wife kept the house and cooked all the food for both the family and employees.

At the time of the internment, Tasaburo's son, Kiyoshi, remembers having to register at the Fuji Chop Suey House and one day his father was just gone. His father was in fact sent to a Road Camp in Lucerne, BC. The family was sent to Greenwood, BC and in 1943 they were reunited and all moved to Alberta. The family remained and still lives in Lethbridge, Alberta. Tasaburo's children are Masae, Kiyoshi, Yoshio and Yasuko.
