descriptionThis image shows two rows of young girls from the Vancouver Japanese Language School standing outside in kimonos in front of a large crowd of people gathered for the royal visit of King George VI and Queen Mary to Vancouver, BC. In the first row, first on the right is Sumie Nakashima (nee Sumida) (she is around ten years old in this photograph). In the second row, second from the left is Shirley Omatsu (nee Yamake). The large letters above the buildings in the background read, "NEON" and the text on the sign on the building underneath those letters reads, "MASSEY-HARRIS". A woman holding a baby is visible underneath the branches of a tree on the left side of the photograph and a man in a suit reaching into his suit jacket is present on the right side of the photograph.
