descriptionSepia toned studio group portrait printed as postcard of eleven young Japanese Canadian men dressed formally in suit and tie. Four of them are holding violins. The front row are seated on wood chairs while the back row is standing on a decorative rug with curtains hanging in the background. The photograph is etched with white Japanese text. Verso reveals that the item is a postcard.

 


 

Yonokichi (Tom) Hayashi is seated centre front. Yonokichi was a self taught violinist. This photograph depicts the orchestra he played with at the Vancouver Hotel.
