biography

Kenichi Maeno was born in Japan in 1904. He came to Canada in 1916 with his father at the age of twelve. He worked in many occupations until he started a farm in Strawberry Hill, BC (now a part of Surrey, BC). He worked on the farm until 1941, when the family was forced to evacuate to Alberta.

He was a good friend of Mr Yukawa and learned the carpentry trade under him. Mr Yukawa was an accomplished carpenter trained in Japan. When Mr Yukawa retired, he gave his tools, that he had brought from Japan, to Mr Maeno. These are the tools that make up the collection.
