scope and content | This collection consists of Alice Reid's personal photographs and textual records relating to her experiences in Hastings Park and Tashme internment camp. Included are photographs of the staff building, staff members, her son Alex Reid, overviews of Tashme, and other camp photographs. The textual records consist of pages from Alice Reid's autograph album signed by internees in Hastings Park and Tashme, and a newspaper clipping of the hospital in Tashme. |
biography | Alice Reid graduated in 1935 after three years of nursing school and was valedictorian. During the Second World War, Alice Reid was a nurse at Hastings Park hospital from 1942-1943. Following the closure of Hastings Park, Alice moved to Tashme BC and worked as a matron at the Tashme hospital from 1943-1946. When the Tashme hospital closed in 1946, Alice returned to work at Vancouver General Hospital until her retirement. |
