biography

Reggie Yasui was a legendary Asahi Baseball team player, acknowledged to be on the finest receivers. He was an all around catcher and great back stop. Skillfully calling the shots from behind the plate, he could rifle the ball to gun down base stealers. He also handled the assault at home plate by trapping the opposing runners. He was also a batting hero.

His career ran from 1923-1937 and in the last two years was the Manager of the Asahis. Reggie Yasui and Roy Yamamura were picked from the Yamato team from Kitsilano. He also played as a regular catcher on the Asahi Nigun (second level team) until Yo Horii was unable to participate as the catcher for the senior team. His contributions were: 1926, 1930 and 1933 - Terminal League Championships. Also in 1933 and 1935 he won team Batting Championships. Reggie was known south of the border as well, playing a prominent part in the International Baseball Series against the Fife Nippons, Seattle Taiyos and the Tokyo Baseball Club.

After the evacuation, Reggie played ball with the Graham Giants in Slocan, BC in 1943.
