biography | Elsie Chan (nee Hamade)'s parents Kiyoko (nee Morimoto) and Itsuji Hamade were both born in Richmond (Steveston), BC. They were married prior to the internment. In order to keep the family together, they moved to Lorette, Manitoba to a Mennonite beet farm. Elsie was born in Winnipeg in 1945. In 1949 the Hamade family returned to Steveston. Itsuji was a fisherman before and after the internment.
The Morimoto family were interned at Kaslo, then Greenwood. |
