descriptionThis item consists of a copy of a black and white photograph of the roll call No. 17 Platoon, B Company, No. 20 CIBTC Brantford, Ont. en route to Pacific Command, S-20 JLS (standing for Japanese Language School) in Vancouver, BC. The original phot was dated to the summer of 1945. The photo depicts Harry Miyazawa, Eiji Yatabe, Joe Sato, Kiyo Tasaka, Tom Yamashita, Kitty Kitagawa, John Tsuchiya, and K. Nishio in WWII era Canadian army uniforms, lined up in front of a CPR station. A typed item description was taped to the back; it notes that "Troop movements are TOP SECRET in the military, but when No 17 Platoon stopped in Winnipeg, to our "surprise", there were 15 family and friends out to greet us. This was the largest reception the Nisei soldiers received during this movement. There was about a group of about 5 greeting us in Calgary". The number 1 has been circled and written on the back.
