The collection contains two photo albums and one envelope of photographs given or left to Kathy from various family members. Many items have been brought from Japan or were used during the internment years. The first album, 2018-05-01, contains 309 photographs taken between circa 1934 and 1945, and including subjects ranging from the Union Fish Market on Powell Street in Vancouver to the Asahi Baseball team and its' players. The second album, 2018-05-02, contains 274 photographs over 66 pages and ranges from the mid 1920's through to the mid 1940's. It includes photos of the Tabayashi and Maruno families, including a great series of photos of the Asahi in action on pages 50 and 51. A small yellow and green striped envelope, 2018-05-03, completes the collection and contains 6 photos.

 

biography

 

Kathryn's maiden name was Tabayashi. Her mother was Kimi Tabayashi, whose mother was Yoshie (?) Maruno, who immigrated to Vancouver pre-1910. Kathryn married architect, watercolour artist and potter Harvey Okawara.
